So, I actually did this a couple months ago, but was too lazy to sort through the pictures, clean them up and arrange them... ehh. This was my midterm project for my bookarts class and one of the pieces I used for my Sophomore Portfolio Presentation at the end of the year. For those of you who don't recognize it, it is the Monster Book of Monsters from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The entire thing is completely hand-made by me (even the actual book part was hand-made) I used regular printer paper, folded and sewn together for the book, with book board cover that I covered with clay (Crayola Model Magic Air Dry Clay) for the tentacles and then with brown plush fur that I frayed at the edges. I used copic marker to stain the fur and make it look patchy and mangey. The mouth pieces and tongue are also made of Crayola Model Magic and painted with watercolor paints. The edges of the pages are stained with watercolor to make it look aged. All clay parts were coated with book glue to make them shiny and keep them from cracking a lot. The eyes are doll eyes that I got from Joann's Fabrics.
I think that covers everything. This is actually functional as a book, you can open it and turn the pages and write in it. It actually turned out to be somewhat delicate because the clay is not very strong so some of the tentacles have broken and had to be repaired and you can see some of them still cracking as well. But overall, I was really happy with how it came out (I put about 2 weeks worth of work into it) the only thing I wish I could have done is the lettering that is supposed to be on the cover
I have a lot of process photos, but I don't really want to take the time to sort through them, send them from my phone, resize and compile them into an image unless people are really interested to see that. I think I covered everything, but if you have questions, ask away!
I'm making a cover for my laptop to look like the Monster Book and this is great inspiration.
